Another wonderful In Situ Festival, put on by Creative Hub 1352 (the main focus of The Small Arms Society) in Mississauga, and their wonderful team, volunteers and board, and most especially artistic director Heather Snell who gave us artists the physical and psychic space to be at our best and combine to create an environment of artistic ferment!
I've written a blog post (part one) with my first thoughts about 'Hearts in Place', my room installation at the festival, which was held at the Small Arms Inspection Building (click here to read) – loads of photos!
Thanks to the many, many friends, colleagues and students who came out!
Thanks also to Jennifer Vong for the photos on this page.
The Ontario Society of Artists has a long history – almost 150 years of it. Their Open Juried Exhibition is always an event, and this year, I’m happy to report, that event includes my work! The large print of Tangled Heart, No Blood Left made it in.
This was a very tough show to get into, I know a number of artists who didn’t make the cut, so I count myself lucky. I was initially drawn to submit my work largely because of the two (out of three) jurors I knew of, regardless of whether I got in or not. One of the jurors, Richard Rhodes, I know in-person; he was the longtime editor of Canadian Art magazine, and we met properly at the gallery he started after leaving Canadian Art, Richard Rhodes Dupont Projects, which had some wonderful shows, though it’s since closed I’m sad to say.
If you can make the reception on Thursday, April 12, 6–8pm, please say hi; otherwise I hope you can visit the show which is sure to be interesting and worth seeing.
Show runs April 10 through May 4, 2018.
Location information including a map is below. Hope to see you there!
On January 8 Kal Honey and I delivered our work for the instructors' exhibition at Neilson Park Creative Centre in Etobicoke (Toronto’s west end), Ontario. The centre has numerous skilled and talented instructors, many of whom have work in the show.
