Contemporary Mixed Media
Contemporary Mixed Media embraces and combines materials, forms, processes and ingredients in ways that open up your creative and expressive possibilities, build a rich visual language, layer meaning and association, and is ably equipped to express a world that is diverse, global and complex while simultaneously able to get very specific.
Possible media include: painting, drawing, cutting, stencilling, gel printing, image transfer, stitching, collage, and more.
We will look at examples from contemporary and/or influential practitioners, physical samples and demonstrations of technique, process, use of materials and combinations, including technical information where needed.
A private Facebook group will act as a safe, supportive environment to share not just completed artworks, but interesting experiments, post questions, provide mutual support and share resources.
I will provide in-class group feedback via the Facebook group (or webcam for those who are not on Facebook), with some (limited due to time constraints and class size) opportunity for one-on-one consultation using Zoom’s breakout rooms.
You can focus on a mixed media project you already have, or are planning, but I will also provide a couple of project suggestions for those who need a specific focus for their exploration and learning.
Each class will typically run 2.5 hours, with a short break roughly in the middle.
Level: Intermediate art-making experience, and up.
The downloadable materials list will be coming soon!
UPDATE: You can now register for a
video-only version of the course
If you do, you will also be able to join the private Facebook group (for sharing, support and feedback with/from your fellow students as well as me) and email me one or two questions a week. Because the course price is already so reasonable, the video-only access is the same price for this session.
