OSA Open Juried Exhibition: I’m In and You’re Invited!

4/9/2018

The Ontario Society of Artists has a long history – almost 150 years of it. Their Open Juried Exhibition is always an event, and this year, I’m happy to report, that event includes my work! The large print of Tangled Heart, No Blood Left made it in.

This was a very tough show to get into, I know a number of artists who didn’t make the cut, so I count myself lucky. I was initially drawn to submit my work largely because of the two (out of three) jurors I knew of, regardless of whether I got in or not. One of the jurors, Richard Rhodes, I know in-person; he was the longtime editor of Canadian Art magazine, and we met properly at the gallery he started after leaving Canadian Art, Richard Rhodes Dupont Projects, which had some wonderful shows, though it’s since closed I’m sad to say.

If you can make the reception on Thursday, April 12, 6–8pm, please say hi; otherwise I hope you can visit the show which is sure to be interesting and worth seeing.

Show runs April 10 through May 4, 2018.
Location information including a map is below. Hope to see you there!

Newly-Elected Member at Red Head Gallery in Toronto!

3/20/2018

Picture
It’s a dream come true!

Approximately 10 years ago I paid my first visit to The Red Head Gallery and when I learned that is was an artist collective, thought “wow, imagine belonging to a place like this, how exciting that would be!”

And now, I am pleased to announce that I am a newly-elected member to the artist collective that is The Red Head Gallery. This was my second application to join, and tomorrow I will attend my first meeting!

To be part of this community of artists I respect and admire, part of a gallery in a high-profile location for visual art, which the landmark 401 Richmond building certainly is, marks a big transition for me, and the reality hasn't sunk in properly yet.

One key benefit of membership is a solo show at the gallery approximately every 21 months. I have lots of interesting work planned for that, including forays into new territory media/format-wise, so stay tuned!

Here are my father and stepmother with me and my digital mixed media print 'Heart Haiku' at The Latcham Gallery Annual Juried Exhibition opening a couple of Saturdays ago.

Kal Honey, the only artist with two pieces in the show, is the photographer.

Terrific show! Wonderful mix and variety beautifully curated by Elisa Coish. We're both so pleased to be part of it.

Many thanks to the jurors, including artist/OCADU associate professor Nicole Collins, Melissa Bennett, contemporary curator at the Art Gallery of Hamilton and Gary Evans, artist and instructor in Georgian College's School of Design And Visual Art.

The show runs through April 28, 2018.

The opening reception is on Sunday, January 28 from 2-4 pm.

Exhibition runs until February 4.

The artwork detail shown above is from my ‘Heart Branchlines’ mixed media piece, one of four I have in the exhibition. See more from that body of work here (click).

This is the write up from Neilson Park's Facebook page:
“Kim-Lee Kho is a multidisciplinary visual artist and designer, who works in drawing, painting, sculpture, video, installation, performance and photo-digital mixed media. For many years, Kim-Lee has encouraged NPCC participants to extract more expression from their materials. Celebrate with Kim-Lee and learn about upcoming instructional offerings at the reception on January 28 from 2-4 pm.”

'Drawing from Life' Films & Discussion for VAM Members Jan. 15

Kal Honey and I are working hard to prepare for a special event for Visual Arts Mississauga members, 'Drawing from Life' which combines talk, visuals, film clips and discussion. Co-presented by the two of us, we will focus on the influence and importance of an artist's life in relation to their work, the sometimes surprising pathways and results.

Monday, January 15 (2018), at 7 PM - 10 PM

The most important thing we bring
to our work as
artists is our unique selves.

Free for members. Register in advance: 905-277-4313. Map below.

Live Painting Demonstration this Saturday!

5/17/2017

At 2:00pm this Saturday, (May 20), at Otto Art, for my current exhibition 'RADIANTS', I will be painting LIVE in the gallery!

If you're in Toronto for the long weekend come and see the process I developed for my 'Arounded' series, the lush and tactile ways I work with the paint, the tools I use, and how there's a point beyond which I just have to sit back and watch the painting reveal itself (literally!) over the course of days.

I'll show you one of my favourite unconventional painting tools and some of the ways I use it. And of course I will answer questions about that or any of the paintings in the show.

More information in the flyer here. I've included a map in the page about the show (click here).

Please join me for an afternoon that's sure to be interesting!

Radiants: A Show of Paintings, Now Open – Extended to May 25!

4/17/2017

Picture
My new solo show is now open, through May 25, 2017 at Otto Art in The Junction neighbourhood of Toronto.

Opening reception: Thursday, May 11, 7–9pm
Artist talk: Saturday, May 13, at 2pm

The exhibition features new and recent paintings featuring circles, radials and often radiant colour as well. The signature piece (not shown) in the window of the gallery is 36" x 36" and I am so pleased I managed to finish it despite getting way behind schedule due to a bout of bronchitis from which I'm still recovering.

Looking forward to showing you my paintings in this great little gallery in one of the burgeoning neighbourhoods of Toronto, (so full of interesting contemporary galleries that my last Gallery Walk & Talk visited there).

Hope to see you there!

3/3/2017

Picture
Neilson Park Creative Centre in Etobicoke is currently exhibiting the work of their many instructors, including me, and the work (and its range) is wonderful to see!

If you missed my show at the Culinaria Restaurant in Mississauga, six of the new paintings from that are in this show, along with several of Kal Honey's beautiful pieces.

I hope you get a chance to see it and if you do please leave a comment below and let me know what you thought, what your highlights were.
