These popular tours are an opportunity to visit cutting-edge and leading contemporary art galleries in the comfort and company of a group, see a variety of work and discuss it.
Benefit from limited group size, an organized itinerary “curated” to create a stimulating and varied experience, my on-foot research as well as advance contact with the galleries, which sometimes leads to surprise bonuses. On past walks we’ve had some great surprises: a veteran gallerist regaling us with anecdotes about a famous artist, having one or more artists present to discuss their work with us and answer questions. Once we even had a brand-new Governor General’s Award winner try out his acceptance speech on us – all part of the fun! For each walk, I pick a gallery area in Toronto for us to explore, based on a combination of exhibitions and venues to create an interesting experience. As well, I act as a resource, offering background, insight and a “way in” to the contemporary art which these Walk & Talks focus on. We start out by meeting at a local (usually independent) coffee shop or bakery, have a cup of something, chat over what's planned, and hand out itineraries, before heading off. The half day walks start at 1:00 (we arrange to meet a little earlier) and typically run to between 4:00 and 4:30, just depending on circumstances. Some public transit may be involved, and definitely walking – moderate distances and pace. Accessibility is not guaranteed at all venues. These tours may be my most popular offering, with many people returning again and again. Thoughtful, congenial company and conversation makes for an interesting and stimulating day. Hope to see you at one of them! |
UPCOMING DATES:
The Gallery Walk & Talks are on hold until things are back to normal after the COVID-19 pandemic has passed.
I am so looking forward to when we can get back into the galleries, looking at, contemplating and discussing contemporary art! Watch this space for the next date. Photos: top, Pamela J Bell; next, Kim-Lee Kho
