Contemporary Mixed Media embraces and combines materials, forms, processes and ingredients in ways that open up your creative and expressive possibilities, build a rich visual language, layer meaning and association, and is ably equipped to express a world that is diverse, global and complex while simultaneously able to get very specific.
Possible media include: painting, drawing, cutting, stencilling, gel printing, image transfer, stitching, collage, and more. We will look at examples from contemporary and/or influential practitioners, physical samples and demonstrations of technique, process, use of materials and combinations, including technical information where needed. A private Facebook group acts as a safe, supportive environment to share not just completed artworks, but interesting experiments, post questions, provide mutual support and share resources. I will provide in-class group feedback via the Facebook group. You can focus on a mixed media project you already have, or are planning, but I will also provide a couple of project suggestions for those who need a specific focus for their exploration and learning. Each class will typically run 2.5 hours, with a short break roughly in the middle. Level: Intermediate art-making experience, and up. |
