Mixed Media Artist Book with Gelly Prints & Transfers
In this four-week course we will make a simple accordion-fold artist book, incorporating and exploring gelly prints and image transfers, along with some other media.
(More experienced book artists are welcome to work on a different book structure.) Gel plates (or gelly or gelli plates) are fun, flexible, versatile and seem to inspire creativity! We will use them to make various kinds of prints either directly into our books, or onto other surfaces that we can then collage on. Also, you will learn how to make image transfers from pre-printed materials such as magazines or books, along with factors that make the process difficult and those that make transfers more successful. For those interested in making transfers of their own drawings and photographs etc, I will explain how, along with some do's and don'ts. We will also take a look at design and content, ways to combine your gelly prints and transfers with other media and examples of artist books made by interesting artists. Each class will run 2.5 hours, (sometimes a little more), with a short break roughly in the middle. An artist book is a wonderful, interactive and compact project that is full of creative possibilities – a great opportunity for creative play! Level: Intermediate art-making experience, and up. This can be your first artist book or your tenth. |
