Contemporary Mixed Media Explorations
​Incorporating Textiles, Textile Image Transfers & More

Contemporary Mixed Media (#2) embraces and combines materials, forms, processes and ingredients in ways that open up your creative and expressive possibilities.

Working this way enables you to build a rich visual language, layer meaning and association, and explore a wide range of (and also very specific) interests.

In this 6-week session we will look at ways to incorporate textiles and textile-based processes such as image transfers on fabric and stitching (no sewing experience required), and combine them with other media. 

To create an enriched learning experience, this course will include:
  • slideshows (and sometimes a video or two) featuring contemporary and influential artists
  • physical samples I will show and explain
  • demonstrations of technique, process, use of materials and combinations
  • technical information 
  • a private Facebook group: a safe, supportive environment for you to share not just completed artworks, but interesting experiments, post questions, provide mutual support and share resources
  • my comments and suggestions in the Facebook group, which I will visit periodically during the course, and we will sometimes visit during class to discuss 
  • in-class activities and exercises
  • ​occasional handouts on particular topics
  • ​links to replay videos of each class which will remain available to you for (at least) one year

You can bring a mixed media project you already have, or are planning, to work on, but you can also just explore by trying out the various processes etc, and I can also provide a couple of project suggestions if you would like a specific focus for your exploration and learning.

Each class will typically run 2.5 hours, with a short break roughly in the middle. 

Level: Intermediate art-making experience, and up.

If I need to cancel a course you have registered in, you will be refunded the full amount of your course fee, or you can opt for a credit toward another course, event or other offering, if you prefer.

If you are unable to attend a course you have registered in, and classes have not yet begun, I can give you a credit toward another course, event or other offering. No refunds.
