Photoshop 2 for Artists:
Next Steps

Building on the foundational knowledge, concepts and skills from Photoshop 1: An Introduction for Artists, you will expand and deepen your knowledge and experience with Adobe Photoshop CC, including skills needed to make more creative work from photographs and other imagery.

This course is the second in a series, each increasing and expanding your technical and creative skillsets and possibilities.

After completing Photoshop 2 – and practicing of course! – students who are interested will be able to continue on in my Tradigital Art Studio classes, where we combine, layer, create and transform visual material of all kinds in many different ways, treating Photoshop as a true, digital, art studio.

SUITABLE FOR:
Artists who understand how to operate their computer (including basic file management skills), are still at or near the beginner level with Photoshop CC but have taken my Photoshop 1 course or have the equivalent skills fresh in their minds (subject to approval).

My four-session Photoshop 1 course can be purchased in video replay form ahead of time, for absolute beginners and those who need a refresher on the basics. It is a pre-requisite for Photoshop 2 so that you are assured of having the skills needed for the second course.

The four bi-weekly classes, (ie every two weeks), will include practice images, handouts for some topics, resources, demonstrations by me and actions and skills for you to try out and practice.

All live classes will be recorded and made available as replay videos to registered students for at least a year after recording. The replay videos are invaluable, as is the two-week interval between classes, giving you time to re-watch, review and practice the skills and techniques covered by each class.

We will also have a private Facebook group for you to share homework, experiments, questions and ideas.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
  1. A fairly recent (or older but higher-powered) computer – desktop or laptop (a tablet is not adequate for Adobe Photoshop CC) – please see the sidebar "About Adobe Photoshop CC" for more about this.
  2. A subscription to Adobe Photoshop CC – (see the same sidebar referred to above).
  3. An up-to-date copy of Adobe Photoshop CC installed on your computer before the course begins.
  4. You may find it convenient to have a printer so you can print out some handouts in order to annotate them during class or just refer to them while working in Photoshop on your own.

In this course we will be playing with some more advanced tools and processes, including layers, blends, effects and first steps with masks. We will work with and modify brushes and gradients, and more. The work shown on this page (all made by yours truly) uses a variety of techniques we will cover.
