For the many who could not attend last Thursday's opening because of the snow storm or other commitments, I will be at the gallery (2nd floor at The Living Arts Centre in Mississauga), this Saturday, February 7 from 2:30 to 4pm (I might manage as early as 2:00). It would be lovely to see you :-)
Last Thursday was the day the 'Workspace' exhibition opened, and also when we had a big snowstorm, which began just in time to keep the expected mobs away ;-) Thursday was also the first day of my winter term at Neilson Park Creative Centre, so naturally, also the day The Mississauga News was interested in interviewing and photographing me for the show. So, over the phone, shortly before leaving home for class, I spoke to their reporter Jason and while trying to answer his questions sensibly, discovered how much I need to work on my interview skills! It's interesting how different it feels from an in-person conversation held in front of the work. I feel more comfortable (familiar?) with that situation which helps my thoughts flow in more useful ways. I did a little better while modelling for the photographer, even though getting ready to meet him was a bit of a panic: a quick-change out of my charcoal-smeared teaching clothes, wiping off rather a lot of charcoal from my face, and getting at least my lipstick on before dashing off to The Living Arts Centre. The photographer (Bryon Johnson) managed to take some nice shots of my modelling efforts, and so put a human face to the show for the article. The article and photo are now on the sites of both The Mississauga News and The Brampton Guardian. Thank you to everyone involved! |
