Tracing the History of an Idea – a Recent Artist Talk

4/20/2015

At the beginning of April I had the pleasure of returning to speak to the Markham Group of Artists.

My talk, entitled 'Subject to Limitation', was about the origins and experimental nature of my process, and then tracked the history of one idea: how it was born, developed and grew into many branches and forms over the course of years.

Although it was just a talk (with slides) it felt action-packed!

Loads of good questions came from the packed audience, and I took along a couple of pieces for everyone to get up close to and touch at the end. I'm a tactile person myself so I always appreciate being able to touch or poke something, even with gloves on.

Many thanks to the Markham Group for their warmth and enthusiasm, and to Linda Walesch for the photographs (and Sharon Kirsh for one photo).

My First Television Talk Show Appearance Airs Tonight!

4/17/2015

Last Friday I was a guest on Michael Charbon's talk show Night Time, showing and talking about my art and, strangely enough, defining the word 'diaphanous'.

It was very exciting and a little nerve-wracking, but I knew I hadn't done too badly when he invited me to stay on until the end of the show instead of leaving after my segment as is usual.

If you subscribe to Rogers Cable TV, the program runs tonight (and will repeat a few times) at 10pm, on the Mississauga version of Rogers Community Television.

I'll be watching it tonight and hope I won't be mortified by how I come across. If I'm wearing a bag on my head the next time you see me, you'll know it didn't go well!

I will post an update here with some photos of the experience when I get them from the photographer. Very soon I hope! In the meantime, here's a selfie I shot on my return home, to show the professional hair and makeup (thanks to my multi-talented niece-in-law Bailey Evering!).

Join Me for My Sat April 18 Gallery Walk & Talk – Spots Available!

4/8/2015

SATURDAY, APRIL 18,
1:00 to 4:00 or 4:30, somewhere in central Toronto (TBD), $30.

Spend a fun and stimulating afternoon with me and a group of up to 10 like-minded people, visiting a few of Toronto’s wonderful contemporary art galleries. Bring a friend or come on your own, the small group size is friendly and welcoming.

Toronto’s vibrant contemporary gallery scene is situated in many different neighbourhoods in the city. For each walk I select one where there are interesting shows in reasonable proximity.

I provide some background and context to the work we’re seeing including suggestions on how to approach work that isn’t readily accessible. Depending on the gallery, a representative (even a legendary gallerist!) sometimes offers their insights – and stories about the artist – to add to our experience.

These popular walks are a fun, stimulating experience that will leave you feeling refreshed and inspired (and possibly a little tired!).

Spaces are limited, so get in touch (using the contact form on this website) if you have any questions or would like to sign on. Payment reserves your spot.
