Courses & Workshops Winter 2015/16

12/17/2015

Picture
This winter will be an unusual one for me:
It begins and ends as it did last year, with me teaching Tradigital I and later II to the Digital Image Design certificate students at Fleming College in Haliburton. In these courses we look at traditional, digital and hybrid approaches to making art and design.

I'll pay the students of the Visual and Creative Arts diploma a couple of visits during their Conceptual Development course. Each year there are always some surprises – mostly good ones!

In between I will be doing a little travelling to visit family, and see some art.

My students are rarely far from my thoughts, so I have made sure that my regular teaching days are in good hands – hands I love, trust and respect: my wonderful artist/teacher husband Kal Honey and my effervescent and talented friend Sharlena Wood. More info on both below.

I will miss everyone but this is just for the winter term, I will back as usual in the spring (I'll need the money, haha!). Meanwhile, I hope you have a great winter!

Figurative Art: Drawn and Beyond will continue on, taught by my husband and partner-in-art Kal Honey for this winter term only. Those of you who know Kal know he teaches with a similar outlook and approach to mine, balancing adventure, challenge, skill growth, fun and a positive, encouraging environment. If you haven't taken a course with Kal, before but have enjoyed mine, you are going to enjoy his too!

Description (same as this Fall's):
Not a classical life drawing class!
Work with a life model as a doorway to exploring artistic thinking and approaches, expression and ways of seeing. Learn how to get more out of your tools and materials and try some you haven’t used before, or in ways you haven’t tried. Each term is different, each week looks to stretch your creative muscles, build your skills and abilities, help you see in new ways. One week leads into the next with an occasional sharp turn. Drawing-based but includes some other and mixed media.

Fridays
at Neilson Park Creative Centre
for the Etobicoke Art Group

For winter term only: Fridays in Studio B will be taught by the brilliantly talented and effervescent Sharlena Wood. Mixed media artist extraordinaire, she is sure to inject sunshine and creative fun into what could otherwise be gloomy winter days.

Sharlena is knowledgeable,
a joy to be with and sure to brighten up your winter –
I hope you'll give her a try!

Creative Studio Painting
– mornings or afternoons

Sharlena is all about empowering yourself through knowing your materials, the confidence and courage to experiment, explore, and discover, and honouring personal process and expression for future work.

Focusing heavily on group and individual demonstrations and discussion, geeky technical product knowledge, lots of studio time to paint
and implement ideas, and methods of 'letting go' from realism/working intuitively from references/the power of balance (combinations of technical skill + intuitive painting, realism + expressionism, mixed media, etc).

A little about Sharlena Wood:
Creator of Shared Palette Interactive Art, Sharlena Wood is a vibrant and versatile artist, best known for her collaborative initiatives, community support and instruction via Curry's, Wallack's Art Store, Tri-Art Mfg, and now worldwide through online video classes for Craftsy.com.
Her joy in sharing her passion for, and knowledge of, mixed media and art materials, combined with her cheerful and upbeat attitude inspires fearless exploration and creation – the perfect recipe for building confidence, discovering unique gifts and unleashing creative potential.

My Latest Appearance on Rogers TV

12/2/2015

Yes, they invited me back! "They" being Ry Howitt, producer of Night Time, the talk show I was on this spring. You can catch my segment if you have Rogers Cable and live in the Peel Region of Ontario; Rogers Cable 10 this Friday at 11pm.

This week I talk about my social media portraiture project #dailyheroes, something I intend to write about on my blog as well, in time for the airing of that show, so stay tuned!

I only wish I could watch it myself, but we have no Rogers Cable TV at our house.
