REVISED – Spring Update: Upcoming Courses

3/1/2015

PictureSpring is here and so is my course information, now revised and updated!
Gallery Walk & Talk
SATURDAY, APRIL 18 somewhere in central Toronto
Gallery Walk & Talks are a fun and stimulating way to spend a day (11 to 4) or half day (1 to 4) visiting a selection of contemporary art galleries in Toronto, led by me and ably assisted by Kal Honey, also an artist and instructor. We take a coffee break (& lunch when appropriate) somewhere in the area – that's part of the fun!

Toronto has numerous interesting neighbourhoods known for cutting edge contemporary art galleries and I select the destinations for each walk based on my research on what's showing. I aim for variety, interest and some challenge of course.

Occasionally we've visited a studio or had the artist in person to talk about their work. As well I provide what background and context I can as well as answer questions.

The April walk will be a half day (1 to 4:00 or 4:30pm), with destination to be determined 10 days to 2 weeks ahead of time. Cost: $30. Contact me if you're interested in joining me for this one. Numbers are limited and payment reserves your spot.

Courses & Workshops
THURSDAYS (8 weeks: April 2 through May 21; 9:30–12:30 or 1:00–4:00)
Neilson Park Creative Centre
Figurative Art with Kim Lee Kho
Each term we approach drawing (as well as some other media) from the life model in a variety of ways, building a combination of technical and creative skills, tackling both the “how” and the “why” of working with the human figure.
Registration is now open! Click here for more information and to register.

FRIDAYS (6 weeks: April 10 through May 22, no class May 1)
Etobicoke Art Group
The results from EAG’s survey are in, with respondents voting for a FULL DAY of painting with me on Fridays, so here it is, by request!
Contemporary Painting Studio (full day) with Kim Lee Kho
• 9:30–4:00
A weekly painting session with Kim's expert advice and perspective. Each class will begin with a presentation of a contemporary artist or approach, but no hands-on exercise as provided in the mornings. Mixed media is welcome in addition to painting.
Registration begins week of March 2: Click here to register.

WEDS APRIL 1 (10:00–noon)
Markham Group of Artists
Presentation: Subject to Limitation
An illustrated talk on the development of an idea into themes that have sustained me for several years now as well as my preparations for an ambitious installation that will be shown at the Art Gallery of Mississauga this summer (more info on that under Exhibitions below).
For full description and more: Click here for more information.

WEEKEND WORKSHOP (May 23 & 24, 10:00–4:00)
Visual Arts Mississauga
Photo-Based Mixed Media
My first workshop at Visual Arts Mississauga went really well with a mixture of familiar students and
new ones. The most common request was for more time! So this spring you can devote a whole weekend (6 hours a day) to learning and working, whether you are new to photo-based mixed media or a returning student. Some examples from 20th century and contemporary art will be presented for those who are interested.
Registration is now open: Click here for more information.

HALIBURTON SCHOOL OF THE ARTS
ONE WEEK: June 1–5 in downtown Toronto (OCADU campus)
Gallery Walks to Studio Work
A gallery visit every day plus directed and open studio time to work and process what you’ve seen.
Registration opens March 2 at 8:30am: Click here for more information.

ONE WEEK: July 13–17 in Haliburton
Acrylics: Explore, Express & Experiment
An up-to-your-elbows investigation of the acrylic medium. Very materials and process oriented (loads of mediums & more included in the materials fee); a combination of technical knowledge with plenty of creative exploration.
Registration opens March 2 at 8:30am: Click here for more information.

13 WEEKS (I believe): May 11–August 14 in Haliburton
Studio Process Advancement Graduate Certificate
If you're a professional artist looking to re-examine and challenge your art practice and thinking, or a fine arts grad transitioning from your degree, or heading into further studies, this studio-based mini-MFA could be what you're looking for.
Application/registration deadline is mid-March. Click here for more information.
