Great post Kim. It resonated with me as I have taken so many photos of beautiful landscapes and buildings (another photo interest) and while I have tried a few times to capture my feelings and my personal view of these photos, I have not found (yet) the spark that keeps me going. In the meantime I keep enjoying the photos and revisit the whole painting thing from time to time.

Thanks so much for sharing your personal experience Linda. I think the photos we take, aside from being mementos of a time and place, are visual nourishment. So while we don't use them directly for our work, they feed it indirectly. And we have wonderful photo collections of beautiful and interesting places!

As a visual artist I like nothing more than getting up to my elbows in paint or little plastic toys, or wading in at the deep end in pursuit of an idea. When I am not teaching others in a similar vein, you can find me researching, writing and noodling around in my studio, seeing where my latest lines of inquiry lead me.
